18ct Yellow Gold & Platinum Edwardian Diamond Royal Navy Sweetheart Ring – size approx: N(UK) approx 7(US).
This gorgeous piece is set with small Diamonds detailing the symbol for the Naval Crown which is intricately modelled in a crisp Platinum setting. The detail work to the symbolise the Kings Crown, Plumes and Anchor are quite superb and this would possibly have been made or have been a commission piece for a naval officer. Sweetheart jewellery was extremely popular during the very early twentieth century and can be found in many forms such as brooches and cap badges. They were often gifted to wives, mothers and girlfriends by servicemen as mementos and reminders of the absent loved one. It’s highly unusual to find one in the form of a ring. The band carries the inscription Page (possibly the surname of the officer/serviceman) and Plymouth (Royal Navy Base).
Diamonds are all well matched and have been tested.
